In its most recent pledge drive, crowd sourced knowledge base Wikipedia managed to raise over $16 million. Over 500,000 people contributed making the average donation about $22 per person. Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales said the overwhelming support is “a testament to the spirit of the Wikimedia movement.” The money will go to fund Wiki’s various infrastructure costs, staffing and general expenses.
