Discord

Discord

At the beginning of the pandemic, almost every major conference and trade show was canceled or postponed. This created a need for new ways to gather our community, so we created PGX: a private social network for subject matter experts focused on business, tech, culture, and innovation. After two years, it’s grown to over 3,350 members and the conversations have been exceptional.

During the same time, Discord has evolved into a vibrant network of individuals and community servers, and we’ve decided to go all in on Discord. Consider this your personal invitation to join discord.gg/shellypalmer, our newly redesigned and renovated Discord server.

What Is Discord?

Discord calls itself “the easiest way to talk over voice, video, and text. Talk, chat, hang out, and stay close with your friends and communities.” Once a megalopolis of streamers and gamers, Discord has become one of the premiere services for the creation and management of private and public communities.

Wait. Discord Is Scary!

If you are not familiar with Discord, your initial impression may be that it is not for you. There are all kinds of new things to do and see and, to be honest, Discord can be overwhelming. If you don’t have a Discord account, visit https://discord.com/ and download the app for your computer as well as your smartphone. Choose a strong password and set up 2FA (two factor authentication). Once you have an account, you’ll be able to look around Discord for servers that might interest you. There are literally thousands of them. You’ll find many familiar brands, every Web 3, crypto, and DeFi project, your favorite recording and video artists and about a zillion NFT projects. There’s more to do and see on Discord than you will be able to explore in a single session. Take your time.

There’s only one word of caution (the same word of caution I’d give you about any social media site): Do not share any private or personal information with anyone you don’t know. And never, ever, respond to a suspicious DM (direct message). Other than that… enjoy the experience.

Join the Community

discord.gg/shellypalmer features my daily blog and Sunday essays, videos, memes, and a robust general discussion. We’ll constantly be adding new topics such as Web3, advertising, media & entertainment, marketing, consumer electronics, and data science, and – of course – we’ll be taking your suggestions for other areas of focus. This server is about engaging in diverse Socratic discussions and, again, you are cordially invited to join.

Lots of Ways to Engage

Like most of you, we make our content available on many different platforms. You can subscribe to our daily and weekly emails and visit shellypalmer.com or find us on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, Telegram, WhatsApp, and even Instagram. But we’re going to make a special effort to build our Discord server and make it a central communications channel for our community. I’m looking forward to seeing you on discord.gg/shellypalmer.

Become a Moderator

Part of the fun of building a Discord server is recruiting subject matter experts to help moderate the community discussions. If you’re interested in becoming a moderator, just fill in the form below and let us know.
